The 7 Chakras

Your Spirit Animates Your Body

Your body acts as an antenna to receive signals from your spiritual body.

It's easy to imagine your physical body because it experiences earthly things, such as a warm breeze, a tasty meal, and the shock of jumping into a cold lake. We accept this concept because for most of us it is all we know. We have a brain that tells our legs and arms to move, when we are engaged in a physical activity and we rely on our systems to work within, such as breathing, digestion, and falling asleep; however, there is much more going on than can be seen, heard, or touched.

Have you ever been with a person at the time of death? If not, then perhaps a pet, when they have passed. There is an unmistakable knowing, when the spirit has left the body. The animation is gone.

An image comes to my mind when I think about us and our life force. It stems from my religious upbringing. In my mind's eye I see a masculine figure blowing life into earthly dust that becomes a human being, born to live and then eventually die; dust returning to dust. It's what we are taught from the generations who came before us, because it is what they were taught going back to ancient times.

But, what if there is more to the story? What if we are actually more than just a temporary human being with x-number of days on the planet and when we die it's all over? I know religion teaches us that if we are "good" human beings we will get into heaven to be forever in God's paradise and those who "sinned" are doomed to hell fires and damnation, but what if these teachings are wrong? What if we are actually eternal beings who can never be apart from God and that we are loved so much we can never be punished or banned from paradise?

Think about this; every generation believes it knows better than the one that came before. Youth believes that the older generation is outdated and hasn't a clue what's really going on in the world, and this is true for religious beliefs, political beliefs, and beliefs on the right way to raise children. But, when we analyze books, movies, and other relics from the past, we recognize that maybe each new generation isn't smarter than the last. In ancient times people came to be aware of spiritual things from stories that were handed down or from meditating on their own.

Ancient texts have been discovered and this ancient knowledge has found its way to modern times through yoga, acupuncture, and meditation. While the true spiritual nature of these practices can be lost on us today, the healing nature is innate and if we are open and allow spirit to flow, amazing things can happen in our lives.

Your Spiritual Body

The chakras are energetic wheels outside the physical body that keep the physical body in balance. The awareness of these energetic wheels of life force comes to us from ancient texts and a natural system of medicine that is over 3,000 years old, called Ayurveda. Ayru means life and veda means knowledge.

This system of medicine looks to reduce toxins in the body, reduce worry, and increase harmony in life. In truth, the biggest tax on our peace of mind is worry, so a system that promotes ways to reduce worry and increase harmony is a win, win in my mind.

Our chakras keep our physical bodies in good health when they are in balance. When they are out of balance, we run the risk of developing disease or dis-ease within our body's systems, such as our organs and our lymphatic cleansing system.

Each Chakra has a Specific Function

The Root Chakra promotes a sense of safety and security. A balanced root chakra promotes a sense of peace and security. Balance your root chakra by taking a walk in nature, feeling your feet connect with the earth and visualizing the roots of the trees all around you.

The Sacral Chakra promotes a sense of emotional connection to others. A balanced sacral chakra allows our feelings to flow through us so we can easily express and understand our emotional wants and desires. Balance your sacral chakra by taking a bath with essential oils or journaling.

The Solar Plexus Chakra promotes a sense of our power to make things happen. A balanced solar plexus chakra allows you to take action toward achieving your goals and dreams. Balance your solar plexus chakra by saying positive affirmations to yourself. Set reminders on your phone throughout the day to repeat your positive thoughts.

The Heart Chakra promotes love and connection to the world around us. A balanced heart chakra allows you to see the love and beauty all around you. Balance your heart chakra by feeling gratitude and by practicing forgiveness for yourself and others.

The Throat Chakra promotes an ability to speak and listen. A balanced throat chakra promotes clear communication and the ability to speak with wisdom and discernment. Balance your throat chakra by singing and practicing active listening to others.

The Third Eye Chakra promotes intuition and our innate knowing. A balanced third eye chakra allows for easier visualization and a trust in your own inner knowing. Balance the third eye chakra with deep breathing exercises and meditation.

The Crown Chakra promotes a connection to Divine Wisdom. A balanced crown chakra allows you to feel connected to the world around you. You have a deep sense of joy and peace. Balance your crown chakra by practicing being in the present moment. Repeat affirmations to yourself such as, "I am open to divine wisdom."

Make it Your Own

Spirituality is a personal journey and it is unique to each of us. Whatever resonates with you is what is right for you. Seek out information and teachers and take only what feels natural or promotes a sense of wellbeing. There is no need to memorize or get it right.

Here is a meditation for you to try, when you have a few moments where you can sit quietly and not be disturbed. I am using these items to help you visualize the colors of your chakras, but you can use whatever comes to mind for you. Sometimes it is difficult at first to see the color in your mind. Think of these easily recognizable things, at first, until you have mastered this easy chakra balancing meditation. It can be as short or a long as you wish.

Sit in a comfortable position. You can sit on the floor with crossed legs or in a chair with your feet on the floor. Lay your hands on your thighs, palms up.

Take a few deep breaths, expanding your belly on the in breath and contracting on the out breath.

When you are ready, on an inhale visualize a red delicious apple. Release the breath and continue to see the redness of your apple. Take a few breaths visualizing your red apple.

Now, visualize an bright naval orange. Continue to breath in and out the color orange.

Now visualize a spring daffodil. Breath in and out a few times visualizing your yellow daffodil.

Next, visualize a beautiful, green lawn. Breath in and out visualizing the beautiful green of your lawn.

Next, visualize a perfect blue sky. Breath in and out the color of your perfect blue sky.

Next, visualize a midnight blue sky. Breath in and out as you see your deep blue midnight sky.

And, finally, visualize violets. Happy violets as far as the eye can see. Breath in the color violet and breath out the color violet. Enjoy your beautiful violet breaths for as long as you wish.

When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes and stretch. You have just balanced your 7 chakras.

Do this meditation whenever you feel stress or anxiety, but don't wait for those moments, before you balance your chakras. Start or end the day with this easy meditation. Take notice of where you feel more at ease. Are you better able to handle stressful conversations? Are you feeling more friendly to people you meet at the grocery store? Do you feel a bit happier?

Remember to live with gratitude and self-forgiveness. You are a beautiful spiritual being and you are so loved!
